AskForStarsPrivacy notice
AskForStars helps UK trades and other local businesses send polite emails asking their customers for honest Google reviews. This page explains what personal data we hold, why, and how to get it deleted. We keep it short and plain.
Who we are

This website
This website uses no cookies, no analytics and no tracking scripts. Our web host may keep standard server logs (such as IP address and pages requested) for security and to keep the site running.
What we store, and why

Your customers' data: who's responsible
If you're a business using AskForStars, you decide which customers to email, so you are the controller of your customers' data and AskForStars acts as your processor. You must only add customers who have agreed to hear from you, or where the PECR "soft opt-in" applies. We only use your customers' data to send your review requests. We never sell it, share it with other businesses, or use it for our own marketing.
Who we share data with
Only the service providers we need to run AskForStars, such as our hosting provider, our email-sending provider and Stripe for payments. They may only use the data to provide their service to us. We don't sell personal data.
How long we keep it
- Subscriber records (name, email, Stripe customer reference, subscription and payment history): while you're subscribed, plus as long as we need them for tax records (normally 6 years for UK records).
- Account data: while your account is open, then deleted within 90 days of closing it, except records we must keep for tax and accounting.
- Your customers' data: while your account is open, or until you delete it. Unsubscribe records are kept so we can keep honouring the opt-out.
How to delete your data
Email hello@askforstars.co.uk from the address you used and say what you'd like deleted. We'll confirm by email, normally within a few days and always within one month.
If you received a review-request email and don't want any more, click the unsubscribe link in that email. You can also contact the business that asked you, or email us and we'll pass it on.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask to see, correct or delete your data, object to how we use it, or ask us to limit its use. Email us to do any of these. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
Changes
If we change this notice we'll update the date at the top. For big changes that affect account holders, we'll email you.
